ESOL Curriculum Night is at 5:30 for all ESOL parents. Come meet me and Mrs. van der Lende, our Bilingual Community Liaison.
I have enjoyed seeing all my friends again! This week, we will be working on our speaking skills and forming correct question sentences that begin with wh- question words. We looked at answer pictures and tried to form a question that matched the answer.
Welcome back to another great year at New Prospect!
This first week of school, Mrs. Ianiro (our new part time ESOL teacher) and I will be screening new students to determine eligibility for ESOL. Parent notification forms for all new and current ESOL students will be sent home next week. How is eligiblity for the ESOL program determined? Every parent/guardian completes a three-question home language survey that is part of the Fulton County registration form: 1. Which language does your child most frequently speak at home? (Primary/Native Language) 2. Which language do adults in your home most frequently use when speaking with your child? (Home Language) 3. Which language(s) does your child currently understand or speak? (Correspondence Language) If a language other than English is indicated for any of the questions, the law mandates that the student be screened for eligibility and the W-APT administered if necessary. Parent/guardian permission is not required in order to test for eligibility. Parents/guardians have the right to refuse and waive services for their child. If services are waived, the student still must be administered the ACCESS for ELs annual language proficiency exam in January/Feburary each year. Waivered students are part of the academic achievement subgroup for the district and school. All students who qualify must be served, unless parents waive services. |
