I can't believe that we are in the last week of October already! I know everyone is super excited about Halloween and I can't wait to hear about costumes and trick or treating. This will be the first time trick or treating for some of the ESOL students and we have discussed what Halloween is like in America. This week, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will participate in a mock writing assessment on Tuesday. This assessment will be given several times throughout the year to see how students are performing. Students will be given a prompt and will be expected to write to the prompt using clear language and details.
st graders have been reading and making connections. Many of our stories are about children's first Halloweens and what they did with their family. This has provided great connections to our first Halloween.
nd graders have been reading nonfiction and this week we will be reading about Dia de Los Muertos which is a Mexican celebration that takes place right around Halloween. We will use this to practice asking and answering questions.
rd graders are finishing their narratives about important people and we are moving to informative writing. This week, we worked on comparing Halloween to Dia de Los Muertos. We found similarities and differences and are working on writing these ideas into paragraphs.
th & 5th graders are continuing to read nonfiction texts. This is very important because these skills lend itself to all subject areas. This week, we will focus on cause and effects from texts that we read.
