November is a busy month!! This week, I have several meetings to attend and unfortunately there are no substitutes available to meet with my groups. On Thursday I will be attending a meeting to discuss strategic compensation for teachers and on Friday I will be attending a meeting at another school.
This week in ESOL...
5th grade is reading "Twister" which uses our knowledge of weather to tell a story. We will be discussing cause and effect, summaries, and character traits to describe the story. On Monday, all 5th graders will be taking a writing assessment in their homerooms.
4th grade is working on reading nonfiction articles and watching informational videos about nature, natural resources, and taking care of our Earth to gather facts to support their opinions. We will be using a pros/cons organizer to help them develop their reasons. We will be using these facts to develop persuasive paragraphs.
3rd grade is starting informative writing. We will be making observations about nonfiction books and describe the differences between informative and narrative writing. We will begin this unit by determining the differences between facts and opinions and using facts to give someone information.
2nd grade is working on compound words this week. This is new for many students since these are not used in other languages. We will work on when a word is compound and when they are just 2 word.
1st graders will be writing All About Ladybugs. We are reading "Are You a Ladybug?" and discussing things that we learn about ladybugs. We will also begin a can/have/are organizer for frogs to write information.
