We will be giving our 2nd round of STAR reading/early literacy and math tests. This gives teachers an idea about how students are performing and is a good basis for starting the second semester. For more information on the STAR tests, please visit their website.
Mrs. Psalmonds has also put together information about the STAR tests for our parents.

Please join me and Mrs. Van der Lende, our Bilingual Community Liaison, on January 29 to learn more about STAR tests and ACCESS tests and how they will impact your ESOL student.
This week in ESOL...
1st grade will be learning about nonfiction texts and will be learning about text features. Text features help us read non-fiction. We will learn about headings, photographs, illustrations, labels, captions, and numbered steps.
2nd grade is working on poetry. Poems can be especially hard for ESOL students because it requires them to think beyond what the words say. We will be reading personification and alliteration poems this week.
3rd grade will be writing about a problem and solution. This will help us when we write opinion pieces since opinions are really just our own thoughts on how to solve a problem.
4th & 5th graders are reading Pushing Up the Sky which is a Native American Myth. This week, we will go to the media center with Mrs. Bercher to learn about Greek myths and how they are used in everyday literature.
