It feels like spring this week! Keep in mind that while some of our days are warmer, spring is known to still have some cold days. Please check that your child is dressed appropriately each day. Just because it is warm one day doesn't mean it's going to be like that the next. I know many students have their own electronic devices so this is a great opportunity to show them how useful it is for everyday life and check the weather together.
This week in ESOL...
1st graders are working on making inferences. We worked on this earlier in the year, but it's still hard!! Inferences will be revisited every year so it is very important that we understand that we have to use clues from what we read to understand stories. Sometimes authors don't write down everything... they also want us to THINK!
2nd graders are reading fairy tales this week. We will be determining the story elements of fairy tales, describing characters using character traits, and also comparing two versions of the same folktale.
3rd graders are wrapping up their persuasive writing this week and will be working on writing sentences with correct subject-verb agreement in the present tense.
4th & 5th graders have been reading nonfiction texts that incorporate some social studies topics. This week we will be reading about the American Revolution which they just finished learning about in class and will discuss again in the next social studies unit. This is a great way for us to use main idea, details, and summaries and also use it to review some history topics. Watch a BrainPop to review some of the causes of the American Revolution.
