Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will be taking surveys about the school and staff for the next two weeks. This will briefly interrupt some of our ESOL classes, but I am looking forward to a full week.
This week in ESOL...
1st graders are working on asking questions using the appropriate question word. We are working on asking questions before, during, and after we read so we think about what we already know and what we want to know.
2nd graders are working on comparing and contrasting fairy tales this week. We will be reading different versions of the Three Little Pigs and then we will write our own versions to compare to the original.
3rd graders are completing a silly persuasive minibook and will be working on the point of view of persuasive writing. We will be reading Dear Mrs. LaRue and determining who is telling the story and how it might be different based on what different people think.
4th and 5th graders are working on fact and opinion with the American Revolution and using persuasive language when telling opinions. We will also be reading two books (Midnight Ride and Redcoats and Petticoats) to support our understanding of the American Revolution and why different people may have had different thoughts. On Tuesday, we will have a visitor from the county that is observing my teaching. The lesson will also be videotaped, but will only be viewed by me. It will be used as a tool for me to continually improve my teaching.
