Happy first full week of November! I have enjoyed the great fall weather so far, but am sad for a colder week! Make sure you bring your jackets to school!
This week, I will not be seeing my groups on Wednesday due to several meetings I need to attend. On Friday, I will be out at a SIOP training. SIOP is a way to focus lessons for ESOL students to ensure that they build off of their background knowledge and then use and practice languag skills.
4th & 5th graders will continue to read nonfiction texts. We will focus on finding information to compare and contrast. We will be using signal words to identify compare and contrast relationships. It helps to look for words like: similar, same, both, alike, different
3rd graders will be continuing to write their informative paragraphs comparing and contrasting Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos. We will be working on making sure we use facts in our informational writing.
2nd graders are continuing to read nonfiction texts this week. We will be working on identifying the main idea of a text. Remember that the main idea is not just telling the topic. It needs to explain about the topic in one sentence and be based on what you read.
1st graders are working on sequencing this week. They will be reading several stories working on clear retelling with sequence words. Sometimes, students try to tell too much information and their story retells are confusing. We will continue to work on using precise language and extended sentences.
