I can't believe we already finished our first week of September! Time is flying by!
This week in ESOL we worked really hard...
1st graders were finishing BAS testing so I continued to assist the 1st grade teachers by reading leveled books with students.
2nd graders worked on asking and answer questions with wh- question words (Who, What, When, Where, Why). We also discussedrelationships (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews) and used has or have to tell about ourselves or our buddies. We also reviewed story elements and used our question words to tell about our story Miss Nelson is Missing.
3rd graders worked on writing their personal narratives. We learned that narratives our stories that we tell about ourselves. They are about one specific event that happened. We also worked on identifying subjects and predicates of simple sentences and combining sentences with a comma and conjunction (FANBOYS) to make compound sentences. We also added a hook to the beginning of our narratives to catch the interest of a reader. Be prepared for a quiz on simple and compound sentences next week.
4th and 5th graders read Mirette on the High Wire and discussed story elements and different ways to describe a character. One of the ways we discussed describing someone is using character traits. Character traits are not feeling words. We also introduced our Words Their Way Sorts which they will use all next week.
